Dick Allen, who won the previous night's game with a two-run homer, smashed a titanic blow to clinch Wilbur Wood's 22nd victory as the White Sox defeated the Yankees, 5-2. Allen came up with a man on base in the seventh inning and hit a pitch by Lindy McDaniel into the center field bleachers, about 460 feet from home plate. Only three other players -- Hank Greenberg, Jimmie Foxx and Alex Johnson -- ever had hit drives into that area. [The Sporting News]
