Two-run homers by Amos Otis and John Mayberry carried the Royals to a 5-1 victory in the second game of a twi-night doubleheader after the Yankees had won the first game, 4-1, with the aid of Felipe Alou's 2,000th major league hit. After Bobby Murcer homered for the Yankees in the seventh inning of the opener to tie the score at 1-1, Thurman Munson walked in the eighth, took third on a single by Roy White and counted the go-ahead run when Alou singled. Ron Swoboda walked to load the bases and Celerino Sanchez singled to add two extra runs.
