A three-run homer by Darrell Evans in the eighth inning enabled the Braves to defeat the Mets, 7-6, for their fifth straight victory. Earl Williams and Dusty Baker hit earlier homers to pace the Braves to a 4-1 lead, but the Mets erupted for five runs in the eighth.

Ed Kranepool and Dave Marshall each walked with the bases loaded, Jim Beauchamp put the Mets ahead with a two-run single and Duffy Dyer added a run with another single. Hank Aaron singled for the Braves in their half of the eighth and was forced by Baker. Williams flied out but Rico Carty drew a walk and Evans followed with his homer. [The Sporting News]
