Don Kessinger, making up for two errors on one play, snapped a tie with a two-run single in the seventh inning to put the Cubs ahead in a 9-3 victory over the Giants. Ken Henderson hit an inside-the-park homer for the Giants in the fourth and Kessinger's misplay allowed two unearned runs to score in the sixth.

The Cubs rallied with three runs to pull even in their half and went ahead when Carmen Fanzone walked, Paul Popovich doubled and Kessinger singled in the seventh. Billy Williams homered in the eighth and the Cubs went on to add three more runs on walks to Popovich, Bill North and Kessinger with the bases loaded. [The Sporting News]
