Starting with a leadoff homer by Lou Brock, the Cardinals scored four runs off Juan Marichal in the first 2 2/3 innings and beat the Giants, 4-2, behind the three-hit pitching of Don Durham. After Brock's belt, two more runs crossed the plate in the first on a pair of walks and a double by Luis Melendez. Bernie Carbo doubled and scored on a single by Ted Simmons in the third before Marichal was lifted. [The Sporting News]
