. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After the Phillies exploded for eight runs in the third inning, Steve Carlton breezed to his 22nd victory, defeating the Braves, 8-0. Carlton singled as the opener for the outburst and took second on a sacrifice by Denny Doyle. The Phillies followed with seven consecutive hits, including back-to-back homers by Joe Lis and Greg Luzinski. Lis' drive came with two men on base.

Hank Aaron singled for the Braves in the first inning to set the career total base record with 6,135, passing Stan Musial's former mark of 6,134. [The Sporting News]
