Carmen Fanzone and Ron Santo hit homers to escort Fergie Jenkins to his 19th victory of the season as the Cubs won the first game of a doubleheader, 2-0, before losing to the Mets in the second game, 7-2. The shutout was Jenkins' fifth of the season and the complete game was his 22nd. Gary Gentry, who started the nightcap for Mets, gained his first victory since July 22. Cleon Jones and Ted Martinez each batted in two runs. [The Sporting News]
