The Dodgers committed seven errors, setting a Los Angeles club record, while losing to the Reds in the second game of a doubleheader, 8-4, after winning the first game, 6-5. Oddly, the Dodgers' errors played only a minor role in their defeat. Six of the Reds' eight runs were earned.

In the opener, Bill Plummer and Johnny Bench hit homers to pace the Reds to a 3-1 lead before the Dodgers came back with successive circuit clouts by Steve Yeager and Billy Grabarkewitz to go ahead in the fifth, 4-3. Yeager's homer with a man on base was his first in the major leagues. The Dodgers added a run in the eighth, but the Reds rallied for a pair to tie the score in the ninth. In the Dodgers' half, Bill Russell walked and was sacrificed to second. After an intentional pass to Bill Buckner, Jim Lefebvre struck out, but Manny Mota came through with a double to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
