. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Tigers moved into a tie with the Orioles for first place in the East Division when Willie Horton knocked in two runs with a triple in the sixth inning to defeat the Indians, 2-1. The Red Sox and Yankees were one-half game behind in the tightly-bunched race.

Tony Taylor opened the sixth with a double and, after two out, Gaylord Perry walked Norm Cash intentionally in a move that backfired when Horton hit his triple. The Indians picked up their run off Woodie Fryman in the eighth. Jack Brohamer struck out but reached first safely on a passed ball by Bill Freehan and came around to score on singles by Chris Chambliss and Ray Fosse. [The Sporting News]
