The Cardinals, who were shut out by Carl Morton in the first game of a doubleheader, 1-0, came back to outhit the Expos and win the second game, 8-7. Morton was the winner of his duel with Bob Gibson when Mike Jorgensen walked in the fifth inning, advanced on a groundout and scored on a single by Bob Bailey.

Jim Bibby, up from Tulsa (American Association), made his major league debut with the Cardinals in the nightcap and gained the victory. Diego Segui, who relieved the rookie with the Cardinals leading, 7-4, doubled in the seventh inning and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Ed Crosby. Segui then had trouble on the mound, giving up three runs to the Expos including a homer by Bailey, before saving the game. [The Sporting News]
