. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Staked to a three-run lead in the first inning, Dock Ellis pitched the Pirates to a 4-0 victory over the Cubs. Milt Pappas was scheduled to start for the Cubs but was called home by a family illness and Dan McGinn drew the assignment.

The Pirates wasted no time against the lefthander. Gene Clines and Al Oliver singled and Roberto Clemente tripled for the first two runs and, after two were out, Richie Hebner singled for the third marker. The Pirates wrapped up the scoring with their final tally in the fourth on singles by Hebner and Gene Alley and a grounder by Clines. [The Sporting News]
