Hitting a game-winning homer for the second time in two nights, Reggie Smith batted the Red Sox to a 2-0 victory over the Yankees. In the preceding night's game, Smith connected for the circuit with two men on base to give the Red Sox a 5-3 victory over the Brewers. This time, his homer followed a triple by Carl Yastrzemski with two out in the fifth inning and pinned the defeat on Mel Stottlemyre. John Curtis and Bobby Bolin joined in the shutout of the Yankees.
