Ken Reynolds, who lost his first 12 decisions before beating the Braves, 11-1, September 1, made it two straight victories by pitching the Phillies past the Cardinals, 3-2. The Phillies jumped on Lowell Palmer, making his first start for the Cardinals, for two runs in the second inning on a walk to Joe Lis, double by Greg Luzinski and single by Don Money.

Larry Bowa singled in the fifth, stole second and scored what proved to be the winning run on a double by Tommy Hutton. Bill Stein, playing in his first major league game with the Cardinals, homered in the ninth inning. [The Sporting News]
