Tommy Harper and Rico Petrocelli clubbed three-run homers and Sonny Siebert added a solo swat as the Red Sox overpowered the Yankees, 10-4, to move into the first place in the East Division ahead of the Tigers. After picking up an unearned run in the first inning, the Red Sox began their cannonading in the second when Doug Griffin and Siebert singled and Harper hit his homer.

Ben Oglivie knocked in two runs with a double in the fifth inning before the Red Sox turned to the long ball again with round-trippers by Siebert and Petrocelli in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
