Clyde Wright pitched a six-hitter and smashed a three-run homer as the Angels won the second game of a twi-night doubleheader, 9-4, after Dick Allen batted in four runs with a double and triple to to lead the White Sox to a 5-1 victory in the first game. Allen also accounted for two RBIs in the nightcap to increase his total to 102. In the opener, Allen batted in a run with his double in the first inning, Ed Herrmann homered in the second and Allen iced the decision in the seventh, hitting his triple with the bases loaded to kayo Nolan Ryan.

The White Sox used seven pitchers in the nightcap with the loss going to Dave Lemonds, who was routed in the second inning. Consecutive singles by Doug Howard, Leroy Stanton and Jack Hiatt produced the Angels' first run before Wright came to the plate and whacked his homer. [The Sporting News]
