Tom Murphy, who had been recalled from Omaha, and Steve Busby, who was also brought up from the American Association club, pitched the Royals to 5-0 and 3-2 victories in a sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Twins. Murphy, making his first start since his recall, scattered six hits in posting the shutout. The Royals decided the outcome with three runs off Bert Blyleven in the third inning. Ed Kirkpatrick singled, Paul Schaal doubled and both scored on a single by Freddie Patek. After advancing on the throw home, Patek moved to third on a bunt and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Amos Otis.

Busby, making his major league debut, pitched a five-hitter in the nightcap. John Mayberry provided the big blow for the rookie, smashing a homer with a man on base in the sixth inning. [The Sporting News]
