After winning the first game, 7-1, the Pirates were forced to battle 12 innings before defeating the Expos, 4-2, to complete the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader. Bob Johnson pitched a three-hitter in the opener and Vic Davalillo drove in two runs with a homer and single. Mike Jorgensen homered to save the Expos from being shutout. The Expos forced the nightcap into extra innings when Ron Woods homered with two out in the ninth to tie the score at 2-2. In the 12th, with Davalillo on base and two out, Mike Marshall walked Roberto Clemente intentionally to get at Bob Robertson, who wrecked the move by hitting a double to drive in both runners. The defeat was the first for the Expos in an overtime game at home this season after victories in eight others. [The Sporting News] |
