Ron Santo drove in three runs with an infield out and a pair of singles to pace the Cubs to a 7-4 victory over the Phillies. Santo collected his first RBI in the opening frame when the Cubs counted twice and batted in another run with a single in the third.

The Phillies picked up a run in the fourth and tied the score with a pair on a triple by Larry Bowa in the fifth. However, the Cubs broke away in the sixth when Rick Monday and Carmen Fanzone each drove in a run with a double. Jim Hickman tripled in the seventh and scored when Santo singled for his third RBI.
