. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The victim of two errors by Lou Brock in left field, Bob Gibson was the loser when the Mets defeated the Cardinals, 3-1. Ken Boswell singled in the first inning, took third on a single by Ed Kranepool and continued home when Brock let the ball roll through his legs. In the second, Brock dropped a fly by Wayne Garrett for a two-base error. After advancing on an infield out, Garrett scored on a single by Bud Harrelson. A walk and singles by Garrett and Harrelson produced the Mets' only earned run off Gibson in the fourth.

Gary Gentry held the Cardinals hitless until Bernie Carbo homered in the sixth. The Redbirds loaded the bases with two out in the eighth, but Tug McGraw relieved and saved the game by retiring Ted Sizemore on a grounder. [The Sporting News]
