Fred Gladding failed in relief of Dave Roberts and was the loser when the Dodgers rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Astros, 3-2. Both of the Astros' runs in the third were unearned on a throwing error by Billy Grabarkewitz. Roberts, sailing along with a 2-0 lead, was removed in the eighth after Manny Mota singled and Willie Davis doubled.

Wes Parker and Frank Robinson greeted Gladding's arrival with singles to drive in the tying run. Steve Garvey then bunted for a hit down the third base line and when Gladding threw wildly to first, Parker scored the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
