Erupting for six runs in the third inning, the Expos defeated the Pirates, 8-2. The Expos, who sent 11 men to bat, started the outburst with a single by Boots Day. After a forceout by Tim Foli, Ken Singleton walked and Ron Fairly singled to score Foli. Mike Jorgensen followed with a three-run homer. A walk to Coco Laboy and double by Hector Torres added another tally to chase Bruce Kison. Singles by Torres and Day off Luke Walker produced the sixth run before the inning ended.
