Tom Seaver, who pitched five innings before leaving the game with a sore muscle, gained credit for the victory when the Mets defeated the Cardinals, 3-2. Rick Wise, who was the loser, continued to have bad luck in close games. The defeat was the Cardinal righthander's 11th by a one-run margin this season.
