Dick Allen not only broke the White Sox club record for most homers in one season, but the slugger's drive following a pass to Mike Andrews in the first inning produced a 2-1 victory over the Royals. The homer was Allen's 34th, one more than Bill Melton's previous mark in 1971. Steve Hovley accounted for the Royals' run with a round-tripper in the ninth.
