. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Consecutive homers by Bobby Murcer and Felipe Alou in the fourth inning sent the Yankees on their way to a 4-2 victory in a game stopped by rain with Norm Cash at the plate as the Tigers' leadoff batter in the sixth. The Yankees scored initially in the first on doubles by Roy White and Murcer before the Tigers came back with their pair on a single by Jim Northrup, safe bunt by Tony Taylor, a wild throw by Steve Kline, infield out by Gates Brown and a double by Duke Sims.

After Murcer tied the score with his round-tripper in the fourth, Alou sent the Yankees ahead with the 200th homer of his major league career. Another run to clinch the victory followed on a walk to Thurman Munson, a stolen base and a single by Johnny Callison. [The Sporting News]
