. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Rich Reese, who entered both games as a defensive replacement for Harmon Killebrew at first base, hit a double to drive in the winning run in the opener and drew a walk with the bases loaded to force in the winning run in the nightcap as the Twins beat the Athletics in a twi-night doubleheader, 2-1 and 3-2. Killebrew drove in a run with a single in the first inning of the lidlifter to give the Twins a 1-0 lead. After Killebrew left the lineup, Sal Bando homered for the A's to tie the score in the ninth. The Twins then came back with the winning run in their half when Danny Thompson singled and scored on Reese's double.

In the nightcap, Cesar Tovar scored all three of the Twins' runs. With the score tied, 2-2, Tovar walked with two out in the eighth inning and Rod Carew was safe on an error by Mike Epstein. Darold Knowles, relieving Rollie Fingers, passed Stave Braun to load the bases and then walked Reese to force in the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
