After being held to one hit by Dave Goltz in the first five innings, the Athletics scored five times in the sixth and went on to defeat the Twins, 8-0, behind the pitching of Blue Moon Odom. Bert Campaneris singled, Joe Rudi sacrificed and Matty Alou singled for the first run to end the scoreless duel.

After a single by Reggie Jackson and pass to Mike Epstein loaded the bases, Alou scored on a balk by Goltz. Sal Bando walked to fill the sacks again. Gonzalo Marquez beat out an infield hit, Jackson scoring, and when Rod Carew threw wildly to first base, Epstein and Bando crossed the plate. [The Sporting News]
