Bert Campaneris singled, Joe Rudi sacrificed and Matty Alou singled for the first run to end the scoreless duel.

After a single by Reggie Jackson and pass to Mike Epstein loaded the bases, Alou scored on a balk by Goltz. Sal Bando walked to fill the sacks again.
