Although collecting 15 hits, the Dodgers were not able to beat the Padres, 5-3, until Manny Mota delivered a pinch-single with the bases loaded to drive in two runs in the eighth inning. Terry McDermott and Bobby Valentine singled and Bill Russell beat out a bunt. Gary Ross replaced Fred Norman.
