Tom Seaver gave up a run in the first inning on a triple by Vic Davalillo and single by Rennie Stennett, but then tightened up and pitched the Mets to a 4-1 victory to delay the Pirates' clinching of the East Division title. The Mets went ahead with three runs in the third on a walk to Cleon Jones, double by Jim Fregosi, triple by Duffy Dyer and sacrifice fly by Jim Beauchamp.
