. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Yankees' division hopes continued to fade when they lost to the Brewers, 6-4, for their fourth defeat in the last five games. Johnny Briggs singled to drive in one of the Brewers' two runs in the first inning and smashed a homer after a walk to Ellie Rodriguez in the third.

After the Yankees pulled within one run, Sparky Lyle suffered a rare failure in relief, giving up two Brewer tallies in the eighth. Rodriguez singled, took second on a sacrifice and counted on a single by George Scott. Briggs doubled, Scott stopping at third. After an intentional pass to Ollie Brown, Mike Ferraro hit into a forceout as Scott scored. Bernie Allen homered for the Yankees' last gesture in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
