Although Andy Messersmith pitched a three-hitter, the Angels needed an unearned run to defeat the Rangers, 2-1. The Angels got nine hits off Mike Paul, who was the loser, with their first run scoring on a homer by Billy Parker in the second.

Bob Oliver singled in the sixth and took third on another single by Leroy Stanton, but was out at the plate on an attempted squeeze by Parker. After the second out and a pass, Messersmith grounded to Jim Mason and when the third baseman threw wildly, Stanton counted the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
