Pitching the ninth inning, Clay Carroll set a major league record for saves with his 36th of the season as the Reds defeated the Dodgers, 1-0. Don Gullett, who worked the first eight innings, allowed only one hit and Carroll gave up one more in the final frame. His appearance broke the mark of former teammate Wayne Granger, who saved 35 games in 1970.
