Steve Blass pronounced himself ready for the playoffs sifter testing his injured elbow for two innings in the Pirates' 6-2 win over the Cardinals. Taking over from Bob Moose in the sixth, Blass retired the side but gave up a run on a single and three straight walks in the seventh. Ramon Hernandez hurled the last two frames. Richie Hebner batted in two runs for the Bucs with a homer and sacrifice fly. Al Oliver also accounted for two runs with a double. [The Sporting News]
