George Culver, taking over for Tommy John with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning, put down a threat and saved the Dodgers' 4-0 victory over the Padres. Culver worked out of the jam by striking out Cito Gaston and retiring Dave Hilton on a fly ball. The Dodgers rapped Steve Arlin for a run in second and iced their decision with three more in the fifth, two crossing the plate on a double by Joe Ferguson. [The Sporting News]
