With Mel Stottlemyre pitching a two-hitter, the Yankees shut out the Indians, 4-0, for their first victory of the season after four defeats. A double by Bobby Murcer and single by Graig Nettles in the second inning gave Stottlemyre the only run that he needed, but the Yankees added a tally in the fourth and iced their victory when designated hitter Johnny Callison drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the eighth.
