Willie McCovey homered with Chris Speier on base in the ninth inning to carry the Giants to a 5-4 victory over the Astros. The Giants also had a homer by Ed Goodson, while Jim Wynn hit two and Johnny Edwards one for the Astros. Chris Speier walked in the ninth and the Astros then brought in southpaw Mike Cosgrove to face McCovey in a move that failed when the lefthanded slugger hit his homer.
