A brilliant defensive play by Felix Millan took the edge off a Cardinals' rally in the ninth inning and enabled the Mets to emerge with a 5-4 victory. Millan made a backhanded stop of a smash by Lou Brock behind second base for a forceout and, as a result, the Cardinals scored only one run on a single by Ted Sizemore before the rally ended.

Millan also joined with John Milner in leading the Mets' attack. Each singled in the first inning when the Mets scored two runs. Milner added a homer in the third. After Duffy Dyer singled in the fifth, Millan tripled and scored what proved to be the deciding run on a passed ball by Ted Simmons. [The Sporting News]
