. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Vida Blue, who won 24 games in 1971 but was a comparative bust after holding out last year, made his first start of the season and pitched the Athletics to a 12-2 victory over the White Sox. The A's knocked out Wilbur Wood in the sixth inning after scoring five of their runs on six hits, including a homer by Joe Rudi.

Steve Stone, who replaced Wood, also was kayoed in the eighth when the A's piled up six runs. Stone walked three batters and gave up two singles for three runs. Denny O'Toole relieved and was tagged for a three-run homer by Angel Mangual. Sal Bando also homered off O'Toole in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
