Willie McCovey hit two homers in one inning, tying a major league record, during an eight-run outburst by the Giants in a 9-3 victory over the Astros. McCovey led off the fourth with a round-tripper. Garry Maddox singled and, with one out, Gary Thomasson also hit for the circuit. Dave Rader doubled, Tom Bradley singled and Bobby Bonds doubled for another run to chase Ken Forsch.

After Jim Crawford relieved, Bradley scored on a wild pitch. Tito Fuentes went out, but Chris Speier walked and McCovey, coming to bat again, hit his second homer of the inning to drive in three runs. [The Sporting News]
