Roger Nelson, who was obtained from the Royals in a winter deal, gained his first N. L. victory with last-out help from Clay Carroll when the Reds defeated the Giants, 3-0. Nelson yielded singles by Tito Fuentes and Chris Speier with two away in the ninth before being relieved. Carroll walked Willie McCovey to load the bases and then retired Ed Goodson on a tap to the mound to end the game.
