Hot-hitting Dave Concepcion smashed a three-run homer, plus two singles, and Tony Perez and Johnny Bench also connected for the circuit as the Reds edged the Padres, 7-6. Perez and Concepcion hit their homers in the third inning, Concepcion's clout following a pass to Cesar Geronimo and single by Phil Gagliano. Bench's belt put the Reds ahead, 7-4, in the seventh and enabled them to shrug off a two-run homer by Nate Colbert for the Padres in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
