Earl Williams hit his first A. L. homer, connecting with a man on base in the eighth inning, to power the Orioles to a 4-2 victory over the Yankees. Dave McNally, who pitched a four-hitter, won his third straight game, but the lefthander was losing, 2-1, until the eighth when the Orioles rallied.

Merv Rettenmund singled and stopped at third on a double by Bobby Grich. After Sparky Lyle replaced Steve Kline on the mound for the Yankees, Boog Powell hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the tying run and Williams followed with his winning homer. [The Sporting News]
