The Pirates, after scoring three runs in the first, were forced to travel 14 innings before defeating the Cardinals, 4-3. Three singles, together with a wild throw by Bernie Carbo and wild pitch by Bob Gibson, gave the Pirates their runs in the first. After the Cardinals sent the game into overtime, Gene Alley drew a walk from Alan Foster in the 14th, Gene Clines sacrificed and Dave Cash singled to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
