Bill Melton belted the 100th homer of his major league career to mark a 16-hit attack by the White Sox in a 10-5 victory over the Rangers. After the White Sox scored three unearned runs on two errors in the second inning, Dick Allen singled and Melton hit his homer in the fifth.

The White Sox went on to add three more runs before the inning ended on a double by Mike Andrews, walk to Ed Herrmann, single by Jorge Orta, another pass to Eddie Leon and single by Pat Kelly. Dave Nelson drove in all of the Rangers' runs with a pair of homers. [The Sporting News]
