. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Mets, after winning the opener of a twin bill, 3-1, absorbed their third shutout in this four-game series with the Cubs and lost the nightcap, 7-0. The Mets, previously beaten twice by 1-0 scores, broke their drouth with two runs in the fourth inning of the lidlifter on a single by John Milner, double by Wayne Garrett and single by Duffy Dyer. Milner added an insurance run with a homer in the eighth.

In the nightcap, the Cubs scored five runs in the first inning and breezed to victory behind the three-hit hurling of Burt Hooton. [The Sporting News]
