The Braves ended their seven-game losing streak by defeating the Reds, 5-4, with an unearned run in the ninth inning. Johnny Oates hit a three-run homer for the Braves in the first. Dusty Baker batted in a run with a single in the sixth to put the Braves ahead, 4-1, but the Reds came back to tie the score before Bobby Tolan dropped a fly by Davey Johnson in the ninth, allowing the batter to reach second, and Marty Perez followed with a triple.
