Staked to a 7-0 lead, Jim Lonborg gained his first N. L. victory when the Phillies defeated the Cardinals, 7-4. Lonborg couldn't travel the distance, however, and gave way to Mac Scarce after 6 2/3 innings. Bob Boone singled to drive in two of the Phillies' four runs in the first and the scoring of the other tallies in the fourth featured a triple by Denny Doyle and double by Larry Bowa.
