A five-run outburst in the second inning started the White Sox on their way to an 8-4 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, but the Royals came back with an attack that included five doubles to win the nightcap, 6-1. In the lidlifter, Mike Andrews and Jorge Orta singled and Chuck Brinkman doubled to produce the first two runs for the White Sox. After Johnny Jeter singled, Carlos May hit a three-run homer. Jeter, who had four hits in the game, added a run with a round-tripper in the fourth. John Mayberry homered for the Royals.

Steve Hovley hit two doubles for the Royals in the nightcap and Fran Healy, Ed Kirkpatrick and Mayberry rapped one apiece. Hovley drove in two runs. [The Sporting News]
