An error by Willie Horton that allowed two unearned runs to score enabled the Orioles to defeat the Tigers, 5-3. Earl Williams homered with a man on base for the Orioles in the fourth inning to tie the score at 2-2, but the Tigers went ahead again in the sixth when Al Kaline counted on a double by Horton.

In the Orioles' half, Merv Rettenmund, Boog Powell and Don Baylor singled, Rettenmund scoring, and when Horton let Baylor's hit get past him in left field, Powell and Baylor also crossed the plate to provide the Orioles' winning margin. [The Sporting News]
