. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Willie Stargell and Bob Robertson drove in nine runs between them on the strength of two homers apiece to power the Pirates to a 10-4 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, but the Cubs came swinging back to win the nightcap, 11-3. Stargell homered with a man on base in the first inning and with two aboard in the ninth. Robertson connected for a three-run homer in the fifth and added a solo swat in the eighth.

The Cubs' attack in the second game included homers by Ron Santo and Rick Monday, each with a man on base. Ken Rudolph also accounted for two RBIs with a single and sacrifice fly. The Pirates were blanked until the eighth when they scored their three runs on circuit clouts by Rennie Stennett and Al Oliver. [The Sporting News]
