Designated hitter Rico Carty, although failing to hit safely, nevertheless drove in one run and scored another to enable the Rangers to defeat the Twins, 2-1. Dave Nelson singled in the first inning, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice and crossed the plate on an infield out by Carty.

Carty forced Toby Harrah in the seventh, advanced on a wild pitch by Mickey Lolich and scored the deciding run on a single by Dick Billings. Mickey Stanley homered in the eighth for the Tigers' tally. [The Sporting News]
